Bronchos Wrap Up MIAA Championships With Another Record Performance

Central Oklahoma Sets 4x400 Relay Record As Bronchos Finish Ninth

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Central Oklahoma set another school record at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships as the Bronchos competed throughout Day 3.

It was the final event, the 4x400-meter relay, that the Bronchos put together a great performance. Kerrigan Huynh, Sai Brookins-Fleming, Deriayah Lee, and Treasure Vallerie teamed up for the record-setting performance. The Broncho squad finished in 3:48.73 and in fifth in the championship race, earning UCO four team points.

The Bronchos finished with 12 points and in ninth place in the team standings.

Brookins-Fleming, Vallerie, and Lee were on the relay team that broke the school record last year at 3:51.87.

Lee was up first on Championship Sunday, taking on the 60-meter hurdles final. She ran an 8.82 on Saturday to qualify for the finals and set a new UCO record in doing so. On Sunday, Lee finished sixth again with an 8.86-second time.

In the 400, Brookins-Fleming and Vallerie both qualified with times of 55.11 and 56.07 respectively. On Sunday, Brookins-Fleming finished fourth, just outside All-MIAA honors and a podium appearance. She ran the 400-meter race in 55.77 seconds. Vallerie finished fifth right behind her with a 55.83-second mark.

Genevieve Young finished eighth in the 600-yard finals. On Saturday, she set a school record with a time of 1:25.53. Sunday in the final, she ran in 1:26.82.

Central Oklahoma finished the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in ninth place in the team standings. UCO has four NCAA provisional qualifying marks this season and all came this weekend. Brookins-Fleming hit the mark in the 200m and 400m while Vallerie did in the 400m. UCO's relay team also hit that mark Sunday.
