Bronchos Sign Two

EDMOND -- The Central Oklahoma women's rowing team signed two additional recruits to letters of intent during the recent spring signing period, adding to the two commitments from the fall semester.  Alexandria Heirston and Lindsey Fijalka will join the Broncho crew in the fall.

Heirston is a native Oklahoman but has spent her high school years in Florida, rowing as a part of Melbourne High Crew for four years.  As a student, Alexandria has been a part of the French Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is an AP Diploma candidate and has participated in mission trips in the past.

Heirston says her dream job is to be a dietician. "I want to help people and I think that a healthy positive lifestyle is a great way to help people learn to love themselves," said Heirston.

As a rower, Heirston has seen her share of success on the water in Florida. Alexandria has been a three-time scholastic state champion and two-time national championship competitor.

"We are very excited about this incoming recruiting class!" said assistant coach Amy Jantzen.  "Alex is coming back to her home state after spending her high school years in Florida.  She is someone who will bring a wealth of experience having rowed for four years at the high school level and be able to have an immediate impact on our boat speed. She is also a team captain on her current team so it will be fun to watch her grow into a leadership role here as well."

Fijalka is a native of Harrah and will join the Broncho rowing team as an out-of-sport recruit. Fijalka has had an extremely successful swimming career at Harrah High School and expects to bring that same level of success to the Oklahoma River.

At Harrah, Lindsey has been vice president of the National Honor Society, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta, president of the Scholars Club, captain of the Academic Team and has served as a drum ,ajor for the Harrah Band.

As captain of the Harrah swim team, Lindsey has been a Class 5A state qualifier andfFinalist as well as leading her team to the 5A regional championship this past season.

"Lindsey is someone who will be brand new to the sport but has proven through a highly successful swimming career that she has the athleticism and work-ethic needed to be a successful varsity rower," said Jantzen.  "She also has personal ties to the university with her brother attending Central Oklahoma and I know takes a lot of pride in the University and what it means to represent us!  She will be a great addition to the team on and off the water."

Both Fijalka and Heirston will join Taylor White (Wichita, Kan.) and Madison Wilfong (Oklahoma City) as the recruiting Class of 2018.

The Bronchos will also welcome back team member Ariel Good for a year of military service.  As a member of the crew Good has spent time in the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+, as well as winning the unofficial spare pairs race at the 2012 NCAA Championships
