UCO Opens League Play Thursday

Central Oklahoma makes its Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association debut Thursday when the Bronchos host Lindenwood.
 
Game-time at Hamilton Field House is 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62-plus) and $5 for children (5-17) and UCO faculty/staff.
 
UCO is 7-2 on the season and riding a three-game winning streak.  The Lions from St. Charles, Mo. are 4-2, having won four straight after an 0-2 start.
 
The series is tied 2-2.
 
The Bronchos are home again Sunday to host Lincoln in another conference contest at 2 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE BRONCHOS:  UCO leads the MIAA in scoring with a 90.9 average.  The Bronchos have eclipsed the 100-point barrier three times, beating Mid-America Christian 103-96 Monday in their last outing.
 
Senior Mahlon Jones had 23 points, four assists and three steals in Monday's win, while senior Philip Brown added 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots off the bench.
 
Five players are averaging in double figures, led by Jones' 15.3 standard.  He's shooting 54.4 percent from the field and adds 3.0 assists a game.
 
Redshirt freshman Garen Wright is averaging 13.4 points and 4.0 rebounds a game, while junior Seth Heckart chips in 11.2 points and a team-high 3.4 assists.
 
UCO is also getting 10.6 points a contest from junior Cal Andrews and 10.5 from junior Reggie Sloan.
 
Sloan tops the team in 3-point percentage at 50.0, having made 14-of-28 long-range attempts.  Heckart has made a team-high 25 treys and is shooting 92.3 percent (12-of-13) from the free throw line.
 
ABOUT THE LIONS:  Lindenwood is giving up just 63.2 points a game to lead the conference in scoring defense.  The Lions have allowed just one team to score more than 65 points (Quincy with 73).
 
Cory Arentsen paces LU with a 12.3 scoring average, while Darris Smith adds 11.0 points a game as the only other player in double figures.
