EDMOND (Jan. 16) -- Central Oklahoma was outscored 36-15 in the second half en route to a 64-38 loss to No. 23 Fort Hays State Thursday evening at Hamilton Field House.
The Bronchos fell to 9-6 on the season and 4-4 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. FHSU improved to 12-2 and 6-2 in league play.
UCO shot a season-low 23.4 percent (15-of-64) from the field, including just 13.9 percent (5-of-36) in the final 20 minutes as the Tigers pulled away from a five-point halftime lead.
FHSU's pressure gave the Bronchos trouble early in the game. Leading 5-2, UCO had consecutive turnovers that sparked a 12-0 run for the Tigers that made it 14-5.
UCO found the answer and came back with eight unanswered points to pull within a point at 14-13, but could never regain the lead and FHSU went on to a 28-23 halftime lead.
UCO cut the lead to two early at 30-28 early in the second half, on a 3-pointer by Britney Morgan, but the Tigers responded with a 14-0 run to put the game away.
Kate Lehman had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four of FHSU's 10 blocked shots and the Tigers held a whopping 54-36 advantage on the boards.
Olivia Mason led the Bronchos with eight points and 10 rebounds.
UCO returns to action on Saturday against Nebraska-Kearney at 1:30 p.m. to close out a four-game homestand.
