NSU Topples Bronchos In Semifinals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 20) – Central Oklahoma had a seven-match winning streak stopped here Saturday with a  5-1 loss to Northeastern State in the semifinal of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Championship.
 
The Bronchos dropped all three doubles matches and couldn't recover in fallling to the RiverHawks for the second time this season.  UCO, now 16-3, will take on Northwest Missouri in the third-place match at 11 a.m. Sunday.
 
“It's hard to come back after losing all three doubles matches and we just weren't able to do that today against a very good team,” UCO head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said.  “We just need to put this match behind us and come out strong tomorrow.”
 
NSU earned 8-5, 8-5 and 8-2 wins in doubles to take control of the match and then ended it with victories in two of the first three singles bouts.
 
Antonella Rossini had the lone win for UCO with a big 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 1.
