EDMOND (March 29) –
Edgar Lopez and Ethan Sharp led Central Oklahoma to a 4-3 first-game victory and the Bronchos earned a doubleheader split with No. 5-ranked Central Missouri Friday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

Lopez started and pitched the first six innings before Sharp went the seventh to close out the opener, with the Mules coming back to take the nightcap 6-3.  The two teams complete their three-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series with a single nine-inning contest at 2 p.m. Saturday.

UCM is now 19-5 on the year and 16-4 in the league, while the Bronchos are 17-11 and 14-11.

Lopez improved to 4-1 with the first-game win, scattering five hits and giving up two runs (one earned) while walking four and striking out five.  Sharp gave up a two-out solo home run in the seventh before nailing down his fourth save.

UCO broke on top in its first at bat when Tyler Crabtree was hit by pitch for the 26th time this season, went to second on Cesar Wong's sacrifice bunt and scored on a Jared Wright single.

The Bronchos upped their lead to 3-0 in the second as Ross Rose followed Eric Garza's lead-off double with one of his own and Cameron Mavroulis added a run-scoring sacrifice bunt.

The Mules scored their first run in the third and UCO answered back in the fifth when Mavroulis singled, stole two bases and scored on Crabtree's base hit.

That made it 4-1 and the Bronchos held on, with UCM getting one run in the sixth and its final score in the seventh.

Garza had two of UCO's seven hits.

The Bronchos trailed 4-1 entering the fourth inning of the second game before scoring a pair of unearned runs to pull within 4-3, but the UCO didn't threaten again and the Mules secured the win with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

Wright had three of the team's six hits.
