KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 7) – Central Oklahoma will open the 2012 soccer season ranked No. 16 in the nation, according to the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II preseason rankings released Tuesday.

The Bronchos, who have eight starters back from last year's 15-4 team that advanced to the Division II national tournament, were the lone Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association team in the top-25 poll.

Defending national champion Saint Rose tops the rankings, followed by Grand Valley State.  Armstrong Atlantic is third, with Chico State and Colorado School of Mines rounding out the top five.  Click here for the complete poll.

"It's always good to have our program recognized, but preseason polls don't mean much and we haven't proven a thing yet," said 15th-year head coach Mike Cook.  "We're just looking forward to getting the season started and seeing how good a team we can become."

UCO opens practice next week to begin preparing for its Aug. 31 season opener against St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas.

The Bronchos make their home debut Sept. 7 by hosting Midwestern State and open their first year in the MIAA at home against Missouri Southern on Sept. 14.
