Bronchos Gain Two Transfers

Genny Stidham
EDMOND (Aug. 20) – Central Oklahoma's hopes for a repeat trip to the NCAA Division II Softball World Series have received a big boost with the addition of two key transfers.

Joining the Bronchos are juniors Kalynn Schrock and Hayley Hudson, with Schrock a pitcher coming from the University of Tulsa and Hudson an infielder/designated player from Arkansas Tech.

Both players are immediately eligible and should play a big role in 2013 when UCO makes its debut in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.  The Bronchos also return four position starters and one pitcher from last year's record-setting 46-9 campaign that included a third-place national finish.

“Kalynn and Hayley are both outstanding players and we look for them to have a huge impact on our team next spring,” head coach Genny Stidham said.  “Kalynn is a proven pitcher on the Division I level who will really help us and Hayley is a big-time hitter.

“We're excited to have them join our program and look forward to seeing what they can do.”

Schrock saw action in 20 games in 2012 as both a starter and reliever for the Golden Hurricane, going 3-2 with one save and a 3.64 earned run average as TU went 42-14 and made the Division I national tournament.

The left-handed hurler went 10-5 with one save and a 2.60 ERA as a true freshman in 2010, pitching in 27 games with 10 starts.  She struck out 121 batters in 91 ¾ innings – fanning 15 in one complete-game start -- and tossed three shutouts before redshirting in 2011.

Schrock was an All-Stater at Choctaw High School, going 28-4 with an 0.27 ERA as a senior while racking up 340 strikeouts in 209 innings and throwing 22 shutouts.

A prep standout at Enid High School, Hudson was a second-team All-Gulf South Conference West Division pick at DP as a rookie in 2011 after setting single-season school records for home runs (14) and runs batted in (44).  She batted .331 while adding 13 doubles and a team-high 31 runs for the Golden Sun, who finished 34-19.

Hudson earned honorable mention All-Great American Conference honors at third base last spring for an ATU team that struggled to a 16-31 record, leading the team in average (.310), hits (44), doubles (12), homers (three) and RBI (21).  She made just four errors in finishing with a .982 fielding percentage.
