UCO Releases Women's Schedule

Savannah Hamilton
EDMOND (Aug. 17) – A rugged schedule that features seven national tournament teams from last season will test the Central Oklahoma women's basketball team in 2012-13.

Five of those teams -- Central Missouri, Emporia State, Pittsburg State, Northeastern State and Washburn -- are in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association that the Bronchos begin competing in this season.

UCO will host UCM and WU while playing a home-and-home series against the other three.  The Bronchos also meet returning Division II playoff participant Minnesota-Duluth and near-by rival Southern Nazarene, an NAIA national tournament team last year.

It will be the first meeting between the Bronchos and Crimson Storm since the 1986-87 season.  Click here for the complete schedule

“There's no doubt we've got a really tough schedule with a lot of great teams on it,” seventh-year head coach Guy Hardaker said.  “The non-conference schedule is going to be hard enough, but it's really going to be a challenge when we start MIAA play and we're going to have to be prepared for that.”

Adding to the tough schedule will be a trio of exhibition games, including two against Division I teams.  UCO goes to Wichita State Nov. 4 before visiting Oklahoma State Nov. 7.

The Bronchos will have 12 home games, 11 road contests and three neutral-site games.  UCO opens the season with five straight road games, starting with the Nov. 10 opener against Minnesota-Duluth in San Antonio, Texas and ending with the Nov. 20 contest at SNU.

The Bronchos return nine letterwinners and all five starters from last year's 16-10 team that played as a Division II independent last year.
