Bronchos Sign Two More

Terry Evans
EDMOND (June 8) – Central Oklahoma has signed two more players for the upcoming men's basketball season, with veteran head coach Terry Evans adding a Division I transfer and a local high school standout to the roster.

Junior James Watson, a 6-foot-8 forward who was a state prep star at Stringtown High School, is coming to the Bronchos from Kansas State, while 6-5 guard-forward Garrett Hermanski joins UCO followed a sensational career at Deer Creek High School in Edmond.

Watson earned All-Conference honors twice while leading perennial power Stringtown to a pair of Class B state championships and signed with Washington State.  He spent two years with the Cougars, redshirting in 2008-09 before playing in 29 games the following season.

Watson transferred to Cowley County (Kan.) College for the 2010-11 season and helped lead the Tigers to a 25-8 record, averaging 10.4 points and 6.1 rebounds a game.  He went to K-State last year, seeing action in just one game before suffering a season-ending injury and gaining a hardship ruling to retain a year of eligibility.

“We're looking for James to step in and have an immediate impact for us,” said Evans, who has a 208-90 record in 10 years at the UCO helm.  “He's very versatile and can do a lot of things on the court.”

Hermanski was a four-year standout at Deer Creek, earning All-Suburban Conference honors twice and making the Oklahoman Big All-City and Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association All-State teams as a senior.

He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds a game last season for the Antlers and ended his career as the school's second all-time leading scorer with 1,521 points.

“Garrett had an outstanding high school career and has the ability to help us next year,” Evans said.  “He's a hard worker who will just keep getting better and we're thrilled to have him join our program.”
