Creel Honored Again

BELFAST (June 22) -- National champion Josh Creel picked up yet another honor Friday when the Central Oklahoma star was named to the 2012 All-Nicklaus Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008 and recognizes the top 24 players from all divisions of college golf -- NCAA Divisions I, II and II, NAIA and NJCAA.  The award is named for Jack Nicklaus, a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf who was a Big Ten and NCAA champion at Ohio State before embarking on a storied professional career that netted him 18 major championships.

It's the latest in a long line of awards for Creel, who was named the Arnold Palmer Division II Player of the Year winner after capturing the national title in Louisville, Ky. in May along with being selected a first-team All-South Central Region pick and a first-team All-American.

Creel ended his junior season by winning the regional and national titles with a combined 16-under-par total, taking the regional crown at six-under and then shooting a 10-under 206 at the national meet before winning the championship on the first hole of a playoff.  He finished the year with a 71.82 average for the year and finished in the top 15 in 11 of 12 tournaments with five top-five placings.

Creel had another year of eligibility, but elected to turn professional and is now playing in various mini-tours around the country.
