Bronchos In Seventh

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (May 7) – Josh Creel shot an even-par 72 and Dillon Rust added a 73 to lead Central Oklahoma on the first day of the NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Regional here Monday.

The Bronchos ended up with a 300 total on the 7,112-yard, par-72 Jefferson Country Club and is tied for seventh in the 20-team tournament.  Central Missouri leads at 286, followed by Northern Kentucky at 292 and a trio of teams at 296.

Second-round play in the 54-hole tournament gets underway Tuesday at 8 a.m., with UCO scheduled to start teeing off at noon.  The top five teams and top five individuals not with a qualifying team advance to the Division II championships, set for May 15-19 in Louisville, Ky.

Creel's 72 has him tied for sixth in the individual race, with Rust tied for 12th.  The Bronchos also got a 77 from Derek Franco, while Andrew Green shot 78 and Baer Aneshansley 79.

Creel got off to a slow start with bogeys on two of his first six holes, but the junior standout birdied the par-4 ninth hole to make the turn at 37 and then used an eagle on the par-5 12th hole to spark a one-under 35 on the back nine.

Rust had seven pars, a birdie and a bogey in a front-nine 36, them made eight pars and a lone bogey on the closing nine for his 73.
