MARYVILLE, Mo. (April 6) -- A late-season surge continued for Central Oklahoma here Friday when the No. 26-ranked Bronchos rolled over Fort Hays State 8-1 in a neutral-site showdown.
It was the ninth win in 10 outings for UCO, which improved to 11-5 in continuing its push for an NCAA Division II national tournament berth. The Bronchos stay in town to meet Northwest Missouri at 10 a.m. Saturday.
UCO took control of the match early by easily sweeping the three doubles matches, including an 8-0 shutout at No. 1 by Julia Shviadok and Elizabeta Abramovic.
The Bronchos kept up the pressure in singles, dropping just 10 games in their five wins while losing a tough three-set match at No. 4.
"I am glad that we continued our solid performance today after making a long seven-hour drive,” head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “We came out strong and came out with a good win.
“We are trying to stay focused and strong while battling a few injuries. Each match brings us closer to our ultimate goal of qualifying for the national tournament."
