OKLAHOMA CITY (April 19) -- Jared Wright spearheaded a 16-hit attack that carried Central Oklahoma to a 15-4 bashing of Oklahoma Christian here Thursday night, with the Bronchos overcoming an early 4-2 deficit to rack up their eighth straight win.
Wright went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and five runs batted in, while Kevin Blue added three hits and three RBI and Austin Rycroft a pair of two-run home runs as the 2-3-4 hitters in the lineup combined for eight hits and 12 RBI.
UCO improved to 29-13 with its 14th win in 15 outings. The two teams meet again at 6 p.m. Friday at Dobson Field before ending the three-game series in Edmond at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Ethan Sharp picked up the pitching win for the Bronchos, throwing 3 1/3 innings of four-hit shutout relief. The hard-throwing right-hander struck out three and walked just one in improving to 3-1.
UCO trailed 2-0 after two innings before tying it in the top of the third on run-scoring hits by Wright and Blue, but the Eagles came back with two in their next at bat to move in front 4-2.
The Bronchos took control in the fourth with a six-hit, six-run outburst, the big blow being Wright's three-run double that put UCO in front. Rycroft added his first homer and Cory Proctor an RBI single to up the lead to 8-4.
Rycroft unleashed another two-run blast to left field in the fifth for his 17th homer, moving him into fifth place on the school's single-season list. Wright and Tucker Brown added RBIs to give UCO a 12-4 lead.
The Bronchos stretched that to 15-4 in the sixth on a two-run single by Blue and RBI double by Wright and the game ended on the 10-run rule after lightning and rain forced a lengthy delay in the top of the seventh.
