Bronchos Break Records In Norman

NORMAN, Okla. (April 14) – Lacey Rhodes, Madison Berryman and Alina Istrate broke school records to lead a strong Central Oklahoma showing in the John Jacobs Invitational here Saturday.

The Bronchos had 14 top-eight finishes in the meet, two in relay races and 12 in individual events.

Rhodes captured the lone title, taking the triple jump with a 36' 0 ¾” leap that broke a 13-year-old record, while adding a runner-up finish in the high jump at 5' 7 ¼”.

Berryman came in second in the javelin with a 139' 3” toss, snapping a record that had existed since 1988 and earning her an automatic berth in the national outdoor meet.

Istrate bettered the school mark in the 1,500-meter run, turning in a 4:52.71 time to finish fifth.

Paige Locke joined Berryman as a placer in the javelin, coming in fourth in 110' 9”, and UCO also had two high finishers in the 100-meter dash and 3,000-meter run.

Kayla Randall came in sixth (12.50) and Alayna McGee seven (12.53) in the 100, with Cara Cox taking fourth (11:09.49) and Bailey Hawkins fifth (11:37.41) in the 3,000.

The Bronchos also got a sixth-place showing from Jasmere Love in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.28), while Erica Guerrero was seventh in the pole vault (11' 1 ¾”) and Audrey Price seventh in the long jump (16' 10 ½”).

UCO took fourth in both the 400- and 1,600-meter relays.  Berryman, Randall, McGee and Love teamed up for a 48.70 clocking in the 400, with Randall, Love, Istrate and McGee finishing the 1,600 in 4:04.91.
