SAN ANTONIO, Texas (April 14) -- Julia Shviadok, Anto Rossini and Sowmya Pulumati all went unbeaten on the day to lead Central Oklahoma to a pair of regular season-ending routs here Saturday.
The No. 26-ranked Bronchos opened the day with a 7-2 romp over St. Mary's before moving across town to roll over Trinity 8-1 as that trio each went 4-0, winning both their singles and doubles matches.
UCO ended the regular season 15-6, winning 13 of its last 15 matches after starting out 2-4. The Bronchos, playing as an NCAA Division II independent this season, will now wait to see if they will receive an at-large bid into the NCAA Division II national tournament.
It was also the final regular-season matches for a trio of seniors -- Shviadok, Elizabeta Abramovic and Anna Kochigina.
“I'm happy with the way we played today in bouncing back from a tough loss yesterday (at St. Edward's),” head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “It was an emotional day with three seniors ending their journey here at UCO and I'm so proud of how they represented UCO and our tennis program to the best of their ability, both on the court and in the classroom.
“We have had a great season and hopefully we'll get a chance to keep playing. Now we just have to wait on the outcome of the conference tournaments next week."
The Bronchos used their strong doubles play to take control early in both duals, sweeping all three matches against both opponents.
Shviadok teamed with Abramovic for two tough wins at No. 1, while Kochigina and Cabato prevailed twice at No. 2 and Rossini and Pulumati won both outings at No. 3.
Shviadok, Rossini, Pulumati and Abramovic added straight-set singles victories against St. Mary's, while Shviadok, Rossini, Pulumati, Cabato and Kochigina all won their singles bouts in the Trinity rout.
Kochigina had the biggest test against Trinity, dropping the first set 7-5 before winning the second one 7-5 and then taking the win with a 10-7 tiebreaker triumph.
