EDMOND (April 15) –
Cameron Mavroulis rescued Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field, blasting a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Bronchos past Austin College 6-5.

The 'Roos scored three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game, but Mavroulis ended the drama quickly in the bottom of that frame when he lofted an 0-1 pitch high over the left field wall and off the scoreboard for the game-winner.

It completed a two-day, three-game sweep of Austin for UCO, which stretched its home winning streak to eight straight.  The Bronchos improved to 27-13 and have won 12 of their last 13 games.

UCO appeared in good shape after getting clutch two-out run-scoring hits from Jacob Zinn and Cory Proctor in the eighth inning to extend a precarious 3-2 lead to a 5-2 advantage, but the 'Roos answered back in their final at bat with three runs.

The Bronchos needed a pair of good defensive plays to get out of that inning after Austin pulled even and had runners on second and third, with first baseman Austin Rycroft stopping a hard-hit grounder for an unassisted out and Mavroulis making a nice running catch on a sinking line drive in left field to keep the game tied.

Mavroulis then belted his second homer of the season to make a winner of reliever Ryan Wagner, who retired the only batter he faced to end the ninth.  Starter Josh Rolan went the first 8 1/3 innings, scattering 10 hits and striking out seven while throwing 129 pitches.

The 'Roos outhit UCO 11-8 in the contest, with Mavroulis, Zinn, Proctor and Kevin Blue getting two hits apiece to account for all the offense.

The Bronchos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on Zinn's two-run double and Mavroulis added an RBI single in the second to make it 3-0.

Austin finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth with a pair of runs to close within 3-2 and it stayed that way until UCO appeared to get a little breathing room in the eighth.

The Bronchos stay home Tuesday to host Northeastern State for a single game at 2 p.m.
