EDMOND (March 31) –
A powerful offensive attack has been the driving force behind Central Oklahoma's lengthy winning streak, but pitchers Amanda McClelland and Rachael Steverson took center stage Saturday when the No. 6-ranked Bronchos swept a doubleheader from Northwest Missouri.

McClelland hurled a complete-game one-hitter in a 6-0 shutout to start the day and then teamed with Steverson for a two-hitter in 9-1 run-rule romp in the nightcap as UCO extended its NCAA Division II-best winning streak to 27 in a row.

Nathalie Timmermans highlighted a 14-hit second-game attack with her school-record 15th home run of the season.

The Bronchos, now 29-3, finish off a weekend homestand Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Truman State.

“Amanda and Rachael both threw the ball really well today,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said.  “They kept them off balance and a did a great job.”

McClelland tied a career high with 12 strikeouts in the opener and needed just 87 pitches to finish off her seventh complete game outing of the season.  She gave up a lone single in the first inning and allowed only one runner to reach second base in improving to 15-1

The Bronchos, who entered the day with a Division II-leading .375 batting average, had eight hits in the opener and did most of their damage in the third inning.

UCO opened with four straight hits and batted around in that frame, getting a two-run single from Kayce Raines and RBI hits from Timmermans and Brittany Weaver in taking a 5-0 lead.

The Bronchos extended that to 6-0 in the fourth when Macy McKay reached on an error, went to third on Kaylee Brunson's single and scored on Raines' sacrifice fly.

That was more than enough for McClelland, who retired the last nine batters she faced.

Steverson earned the win in the nightcap, moving to 14-2 after giving up just one hit and one unearned run in the first four innings before leaving with back spasms.  McClelland went the final two innings, allowing one hit and fanning two.

UCO jumped on top early, getting three runs in its first at bat as Edwards blasted a two-run homer – her 13th – and Timmermans added an RBI single.

Timmermans broke a tie with Alley Roberts to take sole possession of the school single-season homer record in the second with a massive solo blast far over the center field fence and Devyn Frazier's run-scoring single in the third answered NWMSU's lone score in upping the lead to 5-1.

Megan Whitmire had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Raines a run-scoring double in the fifth to make it 7-1 before the Bronchos ended the game in the sixth on RBI singles by Frazier and Brunson.

Edwards and Timmermans both went 3-for-4 to pace the 14-hit attack, while Brunson and Weaver had two hits apiece.
