EDMOND (March 29) --
No. 26-ranked Central Oklahoma pulled off a trio of come-from-behind singles wins to cap a spirited rally that carried the Bronchos to a 7-2 Senior Day win over Midwestern State Thursday afternoon.

The Bronchos lost two of the three doubles matches to fall behind, but came back strong to take all six singles and capture the key regional win.

Elizabeta Abramovic, Julia Shviadok and Rose Cabato all lost the first set in singles play before rebounding to take the final two sets, while Anna Kochigina also prevailed in a tough three-set battle.  Anto Rossini and Sowmya Pulumati added straight-set singles wins.

It was the seventh victory in eight outings for UCO, which improved to 9-5.

“Midwestern is known for good doubles, so even though we lost two of the three doubles matches we still knew we could come back and win,” head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said.  “It was a really tough match and it could have gone either way with four singles matches coming down to the final set, but we found a way to win.

“We have been working on staying focused and tough during long points and I was happy to see the girls able to pull that off today.  I'm very proud of all of them, but especially my three seniors.”

Shviadok and Abramovic, both fourth-year seniors, had the lone doubles win for the Bronchos with a dominating 8-2 triumph at No. 1.

Abramovic claimed a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Abramovic a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2, with fellow senior Kochigina prevailing 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 4 to earn the clinching point.
