UCO Eighth in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. (March 26) -- Derek Franco shot a pair of 73s to lead the way and Central Oklahoma was in eighth place after opening-day play at the 23rd Annual Oregon Duck Invitational here Monday.

The Bronchos -- the lone non-Division I team in the 14-team field -- were tied for fourth after a morning round 293 before coming back with an afternoon 302 to finish with a 595 total at the 7,007-yard, par-72 Eugene Country Club. The host Ducks lead the tournament with a 563 total, one shot ahead of Long Beach State.

Final-round play begins at 10 a.m. (Oklahoma time) Tuesday.

Franco had 15 pars, two bogeys and one birdie in his opening-round 73 and birdied his first two holes en route to the afternoon 73. He's tied for 19th in the individual standings with a 146 total.

UCO also got rounds of 72-77 from Josh Creel, 76-74 from Andrew Green, 72-78 from Baer Aneshansley and 77-78 from Dillon Rust.
