Rhodes Comes Close At Nationals

MANTAKO, Minn. (March 10) -- Central Oklahoma's Lacey Rhodes came up a little short in her bid for All-America recognition at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships here Saturday.

The sophomore standout tied for ninth in the final standings, one spot shy of becoming an indoor All-America after earning similiar honors at last spring's outdoor meet.  Rhodes cleared 5' 6 1/2" on her second try, with the eighth-place finisher making that height on her first jump.

Barbara Szabo of Western State won the national title with a 6' 1 1/4" jump, while second place went to Lindsay Lettow of Central Missouri at a height -- 5' 8 3/4" -- that Rhodes cleared in winning one of her four titles during the indoor season.

UCO opens the outdoor season Thursday at the Southwestern Relays in Winfield, Kan.
