POTTSBORO, Texas (March 12) -- Chaney Uhles fired a one-over-par 73 to gain a share of the individual lead and pace Central Oklahoma to a third-place showing after the first day of the Lion Invitational here Monday.

The Bronchos ended up with a 320 total at the par-72 Tanglewood Golf Club and trails leader Tarleton State by eight shots entering Tuesday's final round.  West Texas A&M is second in the 20-team event at 318, followed by UCO and Arkansas-Fort Smith (323).

Uhles was one of just nine players in the 113-player field to break 80 in windy conditions.  The sophomore standout had 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey on the day and is tied for the lead with Rebecka Surtevall of Arkansas Tech

The Bronchos also got an 81 from Tressa Brumley, while Taylor Neidy shot 82 and Mychael McWhorter and Lindsey Bensch 84.  Katie Bensch added an 81 while playing as an individual medalist.

“I couldn't be more proud of Chaney for the way she played today,” UCO coach Michael Bond said.  “It was really tough out there, but she stayed steady all day and played lights out.

“We're in a pretty good position and need to come out tomorrow ready to play.”
