EDMOND (Feb. 18) –
Savannah Hamilton scored seven of her career-high 30 points during a 12-0 second-half run that put Central Oklahoma back in control and the Bronchos went on to throttle McKendree 83-68 Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

UCO led by as many as eight in the first half before the Bearcats rallied to go in front 47-44 early in the second half.  The Bronchos regained the lead and were up 53-52 when Hamilton caught fire.

The junior forward started the three-minute scoring spurt with a layup  and ended it with two straight baskets, making another layup and then drilling a 3-pointer from the top of the key as UCO extended its margin to 13 (65-52) with 11:59 left to play.

McKendree got no closer than 11 the rest of the way and the Bronchos remained perfect (7-0) at home.  UCO, now 16-9 and winners of four of their last five, close out the season Wednesday when they host No. 12-ranked Northeastern State at 6 p.m.

“Savannah obviously had a great game, but we also had some other girls step up and play well,” head coach Guy Hardaker said.  “I thought we did a good job of not getting rattled when they got the lead and that was a big key for us.  It was a good win and we're hoping to finish strong next Wednesday.”

Hamilton was virtually unstoppable all day, hitting 11-of-14 shots – including all three 3-point tries – and 5-of-6 foul shots in her 30-point outing while adding four rebounds and two blocked shots.

Jill Bryan made three of her four treys in the opening five minutes of the game and finished with 16 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and five assists.  Autumn Huffman was big off the bench for UCO, contributing 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Bryan drained her first trey from the wing just eight seconds into the game and the Bronchos never trailed in the first half.  Rachel New's 3-pointer had UCO on top 20-13 with 11:10 left and the lead peaked at eight (33-25) on two Paige Locke free throws at 5:08.

The Bronchos led 44-41 at halftime, but missed their first four shots of the second half as McKendree scored six unanswered points to take a 47-44 lead.

A Hamilton trey broke that drought and it went back-and-forth the next few minutes before Hamilton took over to give UCO some breathing room.
