UCO Goes 2-1 In Durant

DURANT, Okla. (Feb. 17) – Central Oklahoma used offense and pitching to secure a pair of afternoon wins during first-day play in the South Central Challenge before losing a tight battle late Friday night.

The Bronchos belted three home runs in a 9-3 rout of Ouachita Baptist in their opener before coming back with a 4-0 blanking of Southern Arkansas behind Amanda McClelland's complete-game shutout. UCO dropped a 4-2 decision to Central Missouri in its final game of the day.

The Bronchos, now 2-3 on the young season, were scheduled once Saturday and twice Sunday, but rain forced the cancellation of the rest of the tournament. UCO will return to actionTuesday when it goes to Midwestern State for a doubleheader.

Kayce Raines, Nathalie Timmermans and Kacie Edwards all had homers against OBU as UCO jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and coasted in.

Edwards had a two-run shot in the first to stake the Bronchos to a 2-0 lead, while Raines had a three-run blast and Timmermans a two-run homer during UCO's six-run second that made it 8-0.

Timmermans had three hits and Raines two to lead an 11-hit attack.

Rachael Steverson earned the pitching win, giving up four hits while striking out four.

Timmermans had another two-run homer and Kaylee Brunson added a two-run double in the second contest and McClelland tossed a two-hitter in a dominating outing in the pitching circle to lead the way in that shutout win.

Raines and Brunson had two hits apiece for the Bronchos.

UCO fell behind 3-0 in the final game, getting an unearned run back in the fifth before UCM made it 4-1 in the bottom of that frame. Brittany Weaver's RBI double in the sixth pulled the Bronchos within 4-2, but they could get no closer.
