TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Feb. 10) –
Four first-inning errors put Central Oklahoma in an early bind and the Bronchos never recovered in dropping a 9-2 decision to Northeastern State here Friday.

UCO committed four of its six errors in the opening frame and the RiverHawks took advantage to grab an early 6-0 lead in their season opener en route to handing the Bronchos (3-1) their first loss of the season.

The teams were scheduled to play single nine-inning games Saturday and Sunday, but will instead play a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Sunday.

“When you don't catch the ball it's pretty hard to win, period,” UCO coach Dax Leone said.  “We're very disappointed, but also understand it's only one game.”

The Bronchos also managed just two hits after manhandling Austin College for 56 in a three-game sweep last weekend.

Both UCO runs came in the sixth when Cameron Mavroulis led off with a bunt single, went to second on error and third on a walk that loaded the bases before scoring on a wild pitch.  Austin Rycroft followed with a sacrifice fly.

That cut NSU's lead to 7-2, but the RiverHawks got both runs back in their half of the inning and went on to close out the win.
