UCO Signee Inks Contract With Yankees

EDMOND (July 29) – Central Oklahoma baseball signee Hayden Sharp has signed a contract with the New York Yankees and will begin his professional career next week.

Sharp, who was taken in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball Draft in early June, pitched in Monday's Oklahoma All-State game before signing with the Yankees on Wednesday.  He will leave next week for the Gulf Coast League in Tampa, Fla. until the end of August before going to the Yankee's Instructional League in the fall, which is for the top prospects in the organization.

"This is an unbelievable opportunity for Hayden and his family to sign with the most prestigious team in professional sports," UCO coach Dax Leone said.  "Although he never played for us here at UCO, he made a huge impract on our baseball program.  Our coaching staff has been in contact with Hayden throughout the summer and we feel very positive about his quest to pitch in Yankee Stadium."

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Sharp went 6-1 with an 0.91 earned run average and 91 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched as a senior at Morris High School.
