UCO Sixth In National Meet

FLORENCE, Ala. (May 17) – No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma used a back-nine rally to overcome a rough start and stay in the mix of things on the second day of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships here Tuesday.

The Bronchos started on No. 10 and were 13-over-par after their first nine holes while making three triple bogeys and three double bogeys before going just two-over on the final nine in finishing with a 304. That has UCO sixth in the 20-team field with a 599 total after two trips around the tough par-72 Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course.

The top-eight teams after Wednesday's final round advance to the match play portion of the tournament that will determine the national champion, with four first-round matches and two semifinal matches set for Thursday before the championship finals on Friday.

Lynn leads the way with a 582 total and is six shots ahead of Cal State-Monterey Bay. Abilene Christian is third at 590, followed by Central Missouri (593), Fort Lewis (597), UCO, Indiana-Pa. (601) and Hawaii-Hilo (602), with three other teams -- Newberry (606), Barton (606) and Columbus State (608) -- also in the running for a top-eight finish needed to stay alive.

Andrew Green once again led the Bronchos, rebounding from early troubles to shoot an even-par 72 that has him tied for sixth in the individual race with a one-under 143 total. Josh Creel rebounded from a rough first round with a 75, while Baer Aneshansley shot 78, Dillon Rust 79 and Chris Muriana 80.

Green was three-over after four holes in his round, but came back with birdies on the par-4 15th and par-5 17th to make the turn at one-over 37. The junior got to even-par with another birdie on the par-4 second -- his 11th hole -- and then offset a bogey with a final birdie on the par-3 fifth before finishing with four straight pars.

Creel was three over after the first three holes before playing his final 15 holes even par. He made the turn at 39 and had six pars, two birdies and a double bogey in a back-nine 36.

Aneshansley had a disasterous start with a double bogey-triple bogey stretch on his third and fourth holes of the day, but he kept it together and was just one-over on the last 14 holes to finish with a 78.

Rust triple bogeyed his first hole of the day, but held on for his 79 and Muriana had a back-nine 37 after shooting 43 on the front.
