Bronchos In Fourth Place

AUSTIN, Texas (March 7) – No. 7-ranked Central Oklahoma managed to end opening-day play in the St. Edward's Invitational in fourth place here Monday despite being without one of its top players.

Josh Creel, who has a 70.4 average in six tournaments this year, was forced to withdraw with an elbow injury after just a few holes in the morning round and the Bronchos went on to shoot 303-306 at wind-blown Grey Rock Golf Club.

Abilene Christian leads the 14-team tournament at 591, followed by St. Mary's (596), Barry (600), UCO and Cameron (610). The 54-hole tournament concludes with a single round Tuesday.

“It obviously made things a little tougher for us without Josh, especially considering how well he's played all year,” UCO coach Dax Johnston said. “He's not going to be able to go tomorrow either, so we'll just count on the four we have and see what happens.”

On a day when par was an excellent score, Andrew Green had rounds of 74-72 for a three-over-par 146 total that has him just one stroke back of the individual leader in a tie for third.

The Bronchos also got rounds of 71-79 from Colby Shrum, 77-76 from Baer Aneshansley and 81-79 from Dillon Rust.
