DALLAS (March 29) --
Josh Creel fired a three-under-par 67 to lead a final-round effort that enabled Central Oklahoma to finish second in the Dallas Baptist Patriot Invitational here Tuesday.

The Bronchos shot a two-over 282 at The Golf Club of Dallas to finish the two-day, 54-hole tournament with an 847 total, five shots behind winner Abilene Christian. Oklahoma City was third in the 20-team field at 853, followed by Oklahoma Christian (857) and Texas Wesleyan (869).

"We played pretty well today and gave ourselves a chance to win the tournament," UCO coach Dax Johnston said. "We weren't as consistent as we needed to be and that hurt us, but we were in position on the back nine and just came up a little short."

Creel bounced back from a second-round 74 with the second-lowest round of the day Tuesday and tied for seventh in the individual standings with an even-par 210 total.

The Bronchos also got even-par 70s from Colby Shrum and Baer Aneshansley, while Dillon Rust shot 75 and Andrew Green 79. Shrum ended up 10th in the medalist race at 211 and Green tied for 13th at 214.

UCO also had two players compete as individuals, with Derek Franco shooting a final-round 73 and Chris Muriana a 74.

The Bronchos will be back in action next week, hosting the UCO/KickingBird Classic Monday and Tuesday at KickingBird Golf Club.
