Bronchos Row Past OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 26) – Central Oklahoma used a late rally to overtake Oklahoma City and win the Varsity Eight race to highlight action in the Stroklahoma Cup here Saturday on the Oklahoma River.

The Varsity Eight win came in the first race of the day, with the Bronchos coming from behind to edge OCU by less than two seconds, 7:15.92 to 7:17.09. Making up UCO's winning team was coxswain Victoria Crowson, Rachel Kliwer, Kristin Philhower, Sarah Jones, Jessica Lawson, Kat Gabrovska, Rose Anderson, Brittany Koster and Kelsey Philhower.

UCO's young Varsity Four team put up a great race, but a last-ditch rally came up a mere half-second short to OCU, 8:25.44 to 8:24.94. Filling out the lineup for the Bronchos was coxswain Carolyn Cloud, Kylie Stout, Celeste Krysler, Jenna Goodner, and Michaela Rabenhorst.

The final race of the day was between the Junior Varsity Eight and the OCU A double (two person boat). The young novice boat stayed with the experienced two-person boat but was narrowly edged out 8:31.54 to 8:33.74. The Junior Varsity Eight consisted of coxswain Jasmine Espino, Hayden James, Vajnessa Torres, Courtney Craig, Brittany Rawlins, Kirsten Clark, Kathryn Garland, Jamie LaVarnway, and Yayi Gueye.

The victorious Varsity Eight now heads west this weekend for the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic. The rest of the team will compete against Wichita State and OCU Sunday on the Oklahoma River.
