Bronchos Fall Short At MSU

Julia Shviadok
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 23) – A spirited singles rally fell short for Central Oklahoma here Wednesday as the No. 20-ranked Bronchos dropped a hard-fought 5-4 Lone Star Conference decision to Midwestern State.

The Mustangs took all three doubles matches to seize a commanding 3-0 lead before UCO fought back to take four of the six singles matches to get close, but MSU was able to hold on.

“We had a few opportunities in doubles, but unfortunately we let it slip away and even though we played really good in singles it was too late,” head coach Natalya Nikitina-Helvey said. “I believe every match can make us stronger and we need to continue improving. We have 10 more matches so we need to keep our heads up.”

The Bronchos lost a couple of tight doubles matches, including a 9-7 setback at No. 3.

UCO came back with singles wins by Julia Shviadok, Eli Abramovic, Lacy Caldwell and Anna Kochigina, but it wasn't enough.

The Bronchos, now 9-8 on the year and 2-2 in the league, are off until going to Lawton next Wednesday to meet LSC rival Cameron and St. Mary's.
