RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (March 22) –
Surging Central Oklahoma exploded for 11 runs during a two-inning stretch to take control and went on to a 14-7 victory over Arkansas Tech here Tuesday evening.

It was the fourth win in five outings for the Bronchos, who improved to 11-14 on the year heading into a three-game weekend series at Lone Star Conference rival Southeastern Oklahoma.

“That was a great team effort today against a very solid ball club,” UCO coach Dax Leone said. “Baseball is the ultimate game about the players and ours have been executing at a very high level lately.”

The Bronchos had 14 hits in the contest – including nine for extra bases – and got three-hit outings from Ryan Schoonover, Derik Grimes and Austin Rycroft. Schoonover also scored three runs, moving him into fifth place on UCO's career list with 145.

Four pitchers saw action in the game, with Ryan Fisher picking up the win.

UCO pushed across six runs in the top of the second inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. Rycroft put the Bronchos on top with a two-run double, with Mac Gordon adding an RBI triple, Tucker Brown a run-scoring double and Schoonover an RBI single in that frame.

The Wonder Boys came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second, but UCO answered with five more in the third to go on top 11-2 as Gordon, Schoonover and Grimes all had RBI doubles.

ATU scored one in its next at bat, with the Bronchos adding single runs in the fourth and fifth on lead-off homer runs by Rycroft and Schoonover to make it 13-3. Grimes added another lead-off homer in the seventh to complete the scoring for UCO.
