MISSION VIEJO, Calif. (March 21) -- Central Oklahoma knocked 12 shots off its first-round score to surge into the lead at the 61st Annual Southern California Intercollegiate Championship on Monday.

The Bronchos followed an opening-round 303 with an afternoon 291 at the rugged par-71 Mission Viejo Country Club, where rain and hail causing several delays throughout the day.  Several golfers were still on the course when play was halted due to darkness.

Round two will be completed early Tuesday morning, before the third and final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. (Oklahoma time).

UCO's 594 total is16 shots in front of second-place Sonoma State in the 14-team tournament.

"This is an incredibly hard golf course and we played great in the afternoon round," UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  "You can't hit a bad shot and get away with it here and we really did a nice job of managing our away around the course."

Andrew Green leads the tournament at 145 after rounds of 73-72, with Colby Shrum tied for second three shots back (75-73).  Josh Creel rebounded from a morning 79 with a second-round 70, Dillon Rust shot consecutive 76s and Baer Aneshansley shot 79-77.
