EDMOND (Feb. 23) –
Carl Curry scored six of his career-high 14 points in the first 40 seconds of the game to stake Central Oklahoma to an early lead and the No. 7-ranked Bronchos went on to rout Southwestern Oklahoma 82-63 Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House in the regular season home finale.

It was the 22nd consecutive home win for UCO, which wrapped up its fourth straight Lone Star Conference North Division championship two nights earlier. The Bronchos improved to 24-3 – tied for the third-most wins in school history – and 10-1 in the LSC North.

UCO wraps up the regular season Saturday at Cameron and then moves on to the LSC Tournament next week in Bartlesville. The Bronchos will take on the No. 4 team from the South Division in a first-round game at 2:30 p.m. next Thursday.

“It was a good way to send our seniors out,” said head coach Terry Evans of Curry, Dauntae Williams, Chris McCleary and D.J. Lemons. “Carl came out aggressive and played really well for us and we did what we needed to do.”

Curry made the most of his Senior Night start, hitting 4-of-7 shots with a pair of 3-pointers in finishing with 14 points and he added five rebounds. Williams had game highs in points (19), rebounds (10), steals (three) and blocked shots (two), while Shane Carroll chipped in 15 points and June Carter 11 points and five boards.

Curry got off to a quick start, hitting a 3-pointer 17 seconds into the contest and adding a conventional three-point play 23 seconds later to give the Bronchos a quick 6-0 lead. SWOSU rallied to go in front 9-8, but Williams answered with a pair of free throws to put UCO back ahead to stay.

A pair of Carroll free throws gave the Bronchos a 10-point advantage (23-13) at the 9:00 mark and the first-half lead peaked at 17 (32-15) when Brent Friday drilled a 3-pointer from the wing before UCO settled for a 13-point (35-22) halftime cushion.

The Bronchos pushed the lead to 23 at 63-40 with 8:59 left to play on a Carroll foul shot, but SWOSU tried to rally and make things interesting when the Bulldogs went on a 13-1 run to pull within 64-53 with 6:19 remaining.

UCO answered back with an acrobatic driving layup by Jarrod McDaniel and a Carter 3-pointer to regain a 16-point lead at 69-53 and the Bulldogs got no closer than 14 the rest of the way.
