Volleyball Adds Three

Laura Campbell
EDMOND (Nov. 17) – Central Oklahoma volleyball coach Jeff Boyland announced the signing of three high school seniors during the early signing period that ended recently.

Joining the Bronchos for the 2012 season will be outside hitter Laura Campbell of Leawood, Kan., middle hitter Talia Stanley of Cache and outside hitter Barbara Jackson of Edmond Santa Fe.

“I'm very excited to add these three athletic players to our squad,” said Boyland, who is 192-104 in nine years at the UCO helm.  “These three all have a very high volleyball IQ and I expect them to come in and make a huge impact in our program next year.”

Barbara Jackson
Campbell comes to UCO after a successful high school season that saw her team finish 31-10 record, though Campbell's season ended early with a late-September ankle injury.  She was a starting outside hitter for her KC Extreme club team that won the USAV national championship.

“Laura is a very well rounded outside hitter who does a great job in both the front and back row,” Boyland said.  “She has played at a very high club level and has plenty of experience in big matches.”

Jackson comes to UCO from local state powerhouse Santa Fe.  She earned All-State honors this fall after leading the Wolvers to a state semifinal berth and was a teammate of Stanley's on the 2009 USAV National High Performance team.

Talia Stanley
“Barb was a pleasant late addition to this signing class,” Boyland said.  “She is another excellent athlete who can play several positions.  I feel Barb can be a very solid outside hitter for us and am excited to have her join our team.”

Stanley was an All-State selection after leading Cache to a 34-4 record and state runner-up finish this fall.  She led the Bulldogs to the state championship last year and was a starting middle hitter on the 2009 and 2010 USAV National High Performance Youth teams that competed in Florida and Wisconsin.

“Talia is an incredible athlete who has a fast arm-swing, great lateral quickness and a huge vertical,” Boyland said.  “Her dominance at the net is evident in the 442 kills and 146 blocks she had this year.”
