EDMOND (Jan. 29) –
Tyler Phillips hit a pair of 3-pointers to lead a game-opening 20-2 run and No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma annihilated East Central 94-56 Saturday night at Hamilton Field House in a Lone Star Conference North Division mismatch.

The game was basically over after the Bronchos opened up that big 18-point lead 11 minutes into the contest as UCO cruised to its ninth straight win – and its 21st in a row at home – in improving to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in the LSC North. The Tigers fell to 9-12 and 2-4.

“We came out and played some great defense early to get a big lead and then really didn't do much the rest of the half, especially offensively” head coach Terry Evans said. “We did a better job in the second half and hit a lot of shots we missed early.”

All-American Dauntae Williams overcame a slow start to once again led the Bronchos in scoring with 22 points, making all six second-half shots after a 3-of-11 effort in the opening 20 minutes and adding 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.  Williams became the 38th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career, including just the 10th to accomplish that in two years.

Phillips finished with three treys in an 18-point outing to go with six rebounds and UCO also got 10 points apiece from Brent Friday and June Carter. Tony Ross chipped in six points and a game-high eight rebounds as the Bronchos dominated ECU on the boards by a 50-34 margin.

UCO missed its first three shots of the game before Tyler Phillips hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give the Bronchos a lead it would never relinquish. Williams drove in for a layup to make it 5-0 before ECU scored its first basket, but Phillips followed with his second trey to ignite a 15-0 spurt that ended with two Carter free throws and a 20-2 lead at the 11:06 mark.

It was still an 18-point cushion at 22-4 after two Tucker Phillips foul shots, but UCO didn't do much the rest of the half and the Tigers managed to pull within nine (31-22) by the break.

ECU would get no closer, however, as Tyler Phillips opened the second half with a short jumper and then followed a Tiger miss with a 3-pointer from the corner to make it 36-22. The lead moved to 22 (48-26) on Williams' three-point play with 16:12 remaining and UCO was home free.

The Bronchos ended up scoring 63 second-half points behind 60.5-percent (23-of-38) shooting in eclipsing the 90-point mark for the seventh time this season.

UCO ends its five-game homestand Wednesday, hosting Northeastern State at 8 p.m.
