EDMOND (Jan. 15) –
Five different players scored in a 14-1 first-half run that put Central Oklahoma in command and the No. 15-ranked Bronchos went on to sprint past Cameron 93-63 in a Lone Star Conference North Division mismatch Saturday night at Hamilton Field House.

The game was tied 17-17 after the Aggies hit a 3-pointer midway through the opening half, but Carl Curry's layup 23 seconds later put UCO in front to stay and the Bronchos pushed their lead to 31-18 by the 5:49 mark.

It was a 19-point (45-26) lead at halftime and UCO was never tested in the second half en route to their 18th consecutive home win.

The three-time defending North Division champion Bronchos improved to 16-2 on the year and 2-0 in the league in winning for the sixth straight time. CU fell to 10-7 and 0-2.

“We did a great job defensively and that fueled our offense,” UCO coach Terry Evans said. “We didn't shot the ball very well, but didn't turn it over and kept attacking.”

The Bronchos shot just 43.6 percent (34-of-78) from the field and, though they made 14 treys, connected on only 33.3 percent (14-of-42) from long range. But UCO committed a season-low seven turnovers and outrebounded the Aggies 47-40.

Five players ended up in double figures for the Bronchos, who got 39 points from the bench.

All-American Dauntae Williams had game highs in points (21), rebounds (12) and assists (six), while Shane Carroll made four 3-pointers in scoring 14 points and adding seven rebounds off the bench.

D.J. Lemons had three treys in a 13-point outing in just 11 minutes off the bench, with UCO also getting 11 points apiece from Tyler Phillips and Brent Friday.

The Bronchos never trailed and it was tied just twice, at 2-2 and 17-17.

Curry broke that second deadlock with his layup off a Friday assist that kick-started the decisive scoring spurt. Carroll followed that with a 3-pointer and then got a steal that led to a pair of Williams free throws and a 24-17 UCO lead.

The Aggies made one of two free throws to stem the tide, but only momentarily. Tucker Phillips made two free throws, Williams drained a long trey from the top of the key and Friday drove in for a fast-break layup off a Williams feed to make it a 31-18 game with 5:49 left in the half.

UCO's first-half lead peaked at 21 at 43-22 on a Lemons 3-pointer and the Bronchos were in control at intermission, 45-26.

Friday had a dunk to open the second half scoring and CU never had a chance to get back in the game.

The Bronchos continue a five-game homestand Wednesday, hosting Texas A&M-Commerce for another LSC North Division tilt at 8 p.m.
