EDMOND (Sept. 5) –
Central Oklahoma struggled to mount an offensive attack down the stretch and gave up a goal in the final minutes to drop a tough 2-1 decision to No. 24-ranked Truman State Sunday afternoon at wind-blown Tom Thompson Field.

The Bronchos edged Nebraska-Omaha 2-1 on a goal with 30 seconds remaining in Friday's season-opener but it was the Bulldogs who got the late game-winner this time, scoring with just 2:38 left to snap a 1-1 tie.

UCO took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute and that held up until the 66:14 mark when Truman tied it.  The Bronchos had just two shots in the final 15 minutes of play and the Bulldogs finally broke through to pull out the win.

“We didn't make things happen offensively like I thought we would and that was disappointing,” UCO coach Mike Cook said.  “Truman is good and I thought we fought hard, but we just made too many mistakes.   It's a learning process, especially with as young as we are.”

Neither team managed much of an offensive attack in the early going before the Bronchos ended the scoreless tie with just over 10 minutes left in the opening half.  Sherri Collins' corner kick went to Ashton Morris and her shot from 15 feet away was blocked, but Brittni Walker was there to knock in the rebound.

That 1-0 lead stood up until the 67th minute when the Bulldogs scored on a long shot that just eluded goalkeeper Samantha Rusk, who made three saves in the next 15 minutes to keep the game deadlocked.

UCO's last scoring chance came with 3:28 left to play when Collins' shot from 25 feet was rejected by Truman's goalkeeper and the Bulldogs answered back with the game-winning goal just 50 seconds later.

The Bronchos stay home next weekend to host the Dr. Pepper Classic, taking on St. Edwards at 4 p.m. Friday and Oklahoma City at 2 p.m. Sunday.
