Green Falls In Finals

Andrew Green
TULSA (July 14) – Central Oklahoma's Andrew Green came up short in his bid to win the Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Championship here Wednesday, falling in the finals of the three-day event at Cedar Ridge Country Club.

A junior-to-be from Edmond, Green won five matches in the 64-player tournament to advance to the championship match before suffering a 5&4 setback to Stephen Carney.  Green was also runner-up in this tournament two years ago.

Green made it to the afternoon finals with a 2&1 semifinal victory Wednesday morning over Robbe Trout.  That match was all square through eight holes, but Green took the lead for good by winning the par-4 ninth hole with a birdie.

The two tied he next five holes before Green went 2-up by winning the 14th hole with a par and the match ended two holes later.

Green never led in the title match, falling behind two holes early before winning back-to-back holes on Nos. 5 and 6 to get even.   Carney went on to take a 2-up lead after nine holes and put the match away by winning Nos. 12, 13 and 14.
