RICHARDSON, Texas (June 8) – Alli Miller and Freddie Harris were named as Central Oklahoma’s Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners for 2009-10, the league office announced Tuesday.
The LSC presents a Scholar-Athlete Award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution each academic year. These student-athletes are selected as representatives of the outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership that are displayed on each LSC campus during the year.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
The award caps an outstanding year for Miller, who was named UCO’s co-Outstanding Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year during the athletic department’s annual academic awards banquet in April after enjoying a tremendous senior season on the soccer field last fall.
A product of Norman North High School, Miller was a four-time first-team All-Lone Star Conference pick and won league Defensive Player of the Year accolades as a junior and senior. She was named an All-American by both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Daktronics, Inc. as a senior.
Miller also earned Academic All-LSC honors for the third time last fall and was a first-team selection on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Women's Soccer Team.
Harris, a football defensive end from Carrollton, Texas, was a first-team All-Lone Star Conference North Division pick last year after leading the Bronchos in sacks and tackles for loss.
Signed as a free agent by the St. Louis Rams in April, Harris claimed three awards at the academic awards banquet, taking the Outstanding Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year award in addition to being named winner of the Bronze & Blue Compass Award and the Community Service Award.
