Soccer Faces Tough Slate

EDMOND (June 11) – A rugged early-season slate highlights the 2010 Central Oklahoma soccer schedule that will see the Bronchos play 11 home games and face five returning NCAA Division II national tournament teams.

UCO, which returns six starters from last year's 14-6-3 team that won the Lone Star Conference Tournament, will meet three straight playoff teams to open the season.  Click here for the complete schedule.

The Bronchos of 12th-year head coach Mike Cook host the Broncho Invitational the first weekend of the season on Sept. 3 and 5, taking on Nebraska-Omaha in the season-opener and Truman State two days later.

UCO hosts the Dr. Pepper Classic the next weekend, going against a third straight national tournament team in St. Edward's on Sept. 10 before meeting near-by NAIA rival Oklahoma City Sept. 12.  SEU knocked the Bronchos out in the first round of the South Central Regional last year, prevailing 5-4 in penalty kicks after the teams battled to a scoreless draw through regulation and two overtimes.

UCO's other returning national tournament opponents will both come in league play, an Oct. 3 game at LSC newcomer Incarnate Word and an Oct. 29 home showdown with West Texas A&M.

Other home games for the Bronchos will be Sept. 17 (St. Mary's), Sept. 19 (Science and Arts of Oklahoma), Oct. 8 (East Central), Oct. 10 (Northeastern State), Oct. 24 (Texas Woman's) and Oct. 31 (Eastern New Mexico).

UCO has won six regular season conference championships and five tournament titles in the 2000s while having made seven national tournament appearances.
