UCO-MSU Box Score

DURANT, Okla. (May 7) –
Kacie Edwards drilled a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning to lift Central Oklahoma past Midwestern State 6-4 in a thrilling Lone Star Conference Softball Championship elimination game here Friday afternoon.

The Bronchos used a four-run fifth to overcome a 2-0 deficit, with MSU tying it with two runs in the sixth. Neither team scored again until the international tiebreaker started in the top of the 10th, with Edwards' two-bagger giving UCO a 6-4 lead.

Molly Shivers, who started the game but left after giving up two first-inning runs, came out and put the No. 3-ranked and North Division champion Mustangs down with two strikeouts and a pop out to clinch the win.

The Bronchos improved to 32-18 and moved into a 6:30 p.m. loser's bracket finals game against East Central.  The UCO-ECU winner will take on Angelo State in the championship finals at 12 p.m. Saturday.

Rachel Lowery was placed on second to start the 10th and she went to third on Shivers' base hit up the middle.  Edwards then rocketed a two-strike pitch off the fence in left-center field for her 19th double of the season – extending her school record – to score both runners.

Lowery, Edwards and Kelsey Tiger had two hits apiece for the Bronchos, with Edwards driving in four runs.

Shivers gained the pitched win and UCO also got a clutch effort in relief from Brittany Zimmerman, who came on in the second and pitched four solid innings to keep the Bronchos in the game.

UCO had just one hit in the first four innings before breaking through in the fifth.

Niki Hunt started the rally with a one-out solo home run to left field and Lowery tied it with an RBI single before Edwards put the Bronchos on top 4-2 with a two-run single.

It stayed 4-2 until the bottom of the sixth, when MSU pushed across a pair of runs on just one hit to tie it.
