DUNCAN, Okla. (May 3) -- Back-nine woes cost Central Oklahoma dearly during first-round play in the NCAA Division II Midwest/South Central Regional here Monday at The Territory Golf Club.

The Bronchos' five players made eight double bogeys or worse and shot a collective 26-over-par on the back nine en route to finishing with a 309 total, leaving them tied for 19th place in the 20-team tournament. Wayne State shot a 10-under-par 278 to take a seven-shot lead over Central Missouri.

Second-round play begins at 8 a.m., with UCO's first player set to tee off at 8:20.  Click here to follow the live scoring of the tournament.

Andrew Green was the lone bright spot for the Bronchos Monday, firing a one-under-par 71 that has him tied for 13th in the individual race.  The rest of the team struggled, with Matt Charlson shooting 78, Dillon Rust 79, #J.B. Law 81 and Zach Cleland# 87.

"We got off to a decent start, but everything seemed to fall apart for us on the back nine," UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  "We made a lot of bad swings, had to take a bunch of penalty strokes and just didn't play well.

"Hopefully we'll come back tomorrow and prove that we're a better team than what we showed today."

Green, who has placed in the top-four of UCO's last four tournaments, had an up-and-down round that saw the sophomore standout make five birdies, four bogeys and nine pars.  Green made the turn at one-under and had it to two-under twice on the back nine before giving back a stroke on the par-5 seventh hole -- his 16th of the day -- in finishing with a 71.

Carlson played the front nine at even-par 36 before struggling to a back-nine 42, while Rust shot 38-41 for his 79. Law and Cleland both shot 39 on the front nine before encountering a myriad of problems coming in.
