AMARILLO, Texas (May 2) – A rough front nine put Cassy Knight in a hole she couldn’t recover from as the Central Oklahoma senior opened play in the NCAA Division II Super Regional Four Tournament with an 84 here Sunday.
Knight started her round on No. 10 and bogeyed the first two holes en route to a front-nine 45 before coming back with a 39. She was even par through seven holes on the back nine before making a triple-bogey seven on No. 8, her 17th hole of the day.
Only 14 of 49 players broke 80 at the 6,072-yard, par-72 Tascosa Country Club and a trio of players share the individual lead with two-over 74s. Tarleton State shot a 310 to take a four-shot lead in the team race.
Second-round play begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday, with Knight slated to go off at 8:40 on No. 10. The three-day, 54-hole tournament concludes Tuesday, with the top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams advancing to the national tournament.

“Cassy got off to a slow start and just couldn’t get it back,” UCO coach Michael Bond said. “She played a lot better on the back nine, but had that one big hole at the end. There’s a lot of golf to play and with the way this course is playing she can get right back in it with a good round tomorrow.”
