EDMOND (April 6) –
Central Oklahoma lost a rare one-run decision in the first game and then fell in a deep hole early in the second en route to dropping a doubleheader to West Texas A&M here Tuesday.

The Bronchos entered the day with an 11-3 record in one-run games, but fell 4-3 in the opener before WTAMU exploded for seven first-inning runs en route to a 10-3 win in the nightcap.

UCO fell to 24-12 on the year, while the Lone Star Conference South Division rival Lady Buffs improved to 32-13.

“We just didn't hit the ball like we had been lately,” UCO coach Genny Stidham said.  “We had several chances in the first game and couldn't come up with the big hit.”

WTAMU jumped out to a 2-0 first-inning lead in the first game and was up 3-0 after the top of the fourth.

The Bronchos got back in it in their half of the fourth as Kelsey Tiger led off with a solo home run to left-center field and Brittany Geter scored on three consecutive wild pitches after drawing a walk to make it 3-2.   UCO got two more runners on in that inning, but couldn't push across the tying run.

The Lady Buffs upped their lead to 4-2 in the fifth and it stayed that way until UCO's final at bat.  Kacie Edwards ripped a one-out homer to right to make it 4-3, but WTAMU brought in its closer to get two straight strikeouts and end the game.

Tiger had two of UCO's five hits.

The Lady Buffs took control early in the second game, turning six hits and a key error into seven runs.   WTAMU had five bloop hits and the error in taking a 3-0 lead, with a grand slam extending that to 7-0 by the end of the inning.

It was a 10-0 deficit after the top of the second, with the Bronchos getting their runs on Kayce Raines' solo homer in the second and RBI hits by Molly Shivers and Edwards in the third.

UCO doesn't play again until resuming LSC North Division play next Tuesday against East Central.
