EDMOND (April 6) – Andrew Green had another high finish and Central Oklahoma capped its best outing of the year with a third-place showing at the UCO/KickingBird Golf Classic here Tuesday.

Green, who was runner-up at the Dallas Baptist Invitational last week, came in third in the individual race after firing a final-round 71 at the wind-swept KickingBird Golf Course to finish the two-day, 54-hole event with a two-under-par 208 total.

The Bronchos overcame a slow start to shoot a closing 293 in finishing with an 855 total, eight shots behind winner Abilene Christian and just two in back of runner-up Cameron.   UCO had its three lowest rounds of the year in the 17-team tournament after opening with back-to-back 281s Monday.

“I was really proud of the way we battled today,” UCO coach Dax Johnston said.  “We got off to a bad start and the wind was causing a lot of problems, but our guys fought hard all day and posted a good score.

“I'm encouraged with the way we played the past two days.  We made a lot of positive strides and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do next week and in the conference tournament.”

Green's 71 led the way Tuesday, with the Bronchos also getting a 73 from Colin Morgan, a 74 from Dillon Rust, a 75 from Trevor Stafford and a 79 from #J.B. Law#.

Green was two-over through eight holes in his final round, but got it back to one-over with a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole.  The sophomore standout, who made a tournament-high 38 pars during the two days, came in with an even-par 35 on the back nine for his 71.

Rust was even-par for his final eight holes and tied for ninth individually at 215, while Stafford played his last holes one-under to rally from a rugged start in tying for 12th at 216.

UCO also had three players compete as individuals, with Zach Cleland shooting a closing 75 to tie for 12th at 216.  Matt Charlson had a final-round 75 and Derek Franco a 78.

The Bronchos return to action next Monday and Tuesday, traveling to Aurora, Colo. For the Air Force Invitational.
