Bronchos Split Two LSC Matches
4/5/2010 8:05:32 AM
DURANT, Okla. (April 3) – No. 24-ranked Central Oklahoma split a pair of Lone Star Conference matches here Saturday, dropping a 7-2 decision to No. 20 Tarleton State in the morning before bouncing back with a 5-1 rout of Southeastern Oklahoma in the afternoon.
The Bronchos lost a pair of three-set singles decisions against TSU in a match that took nearly five hours before easily dispatching of the Savage Storm, which ended with UCO ahead in the three singles bouts that weren’t finished.
“We had a great match against Tarleton and it could have gone either way,” UCO coach Natalya Smith said. “We’re dealing with a couple of injuries right now and had to move the line up around a little bit, but we still played well against such a solid team.
“We came back strong and dominated against Southeastern, which I was really happy to see. Hopefully we’ll have all the girls rested and healthy before our next conference match.”
Julia Shviadok paced the Bronchos Saturday, going a perfect 4-0 on the day. She knocked off No. 41-ranked Adrianna Jaskova of Tarleton, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 and rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 rout against SOSU at No. 1 singles while also teaming with Eli Abramovic to win both matches at No. 1 doubles.
UCO, now 13-4 on the season and 3-2 in the league, resumes the season Friday when it hosts East Central for a 2 p.m. match on the Broncho Courts.
