Bronchos Earn National Bid

INDIANAPOLIS (April 28) -- Central Oklahoma received its third straight bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship Wednesday, with the Bronchos set to travel to Abilene, Texas next week for the South Central Regional.

UCO, 15-6 on the year, will take on Incarnate Word (12-2) at 1 p.m. and host Abilene Christian (23-7) plays Washburn (14-5) at 3:30 p.m. in first-round matches on May 6.  The two winners meet at 12:30 p.m. on May 7, with the champion advancing to the 16-team national finals in Altamonte Springs, Fla. on May 12-15.

"We're excited about being in the national tournament again and are ready for the challenge ahead," UCO coach Natalya Smith said.  "It's another step forward for our program and we're looking forward to it."

The Bronchos have enjoyed one of their best-ever seasons despite having a team filled with underclassmen, ripping off 10 straight wins at one point this spring.  UCO made it to the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Championship last week before being eliminated by eventual winner ACU.
