LAWTON, Okla. (April 21) – Kayce Raines went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in to spark Central Oklahoma to a first-game victory over Cameron as the Bronchos split a Lone Star Conference North Division doubleheader here Wednesday.
Raines had the tie-breaking RBI in the fifth inning of a 5-3 win in the opener, with the Aggies coming back to claim a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap. The two teams meet again Saturday in Edmond for a 2 p.m. twinbill.
UCO, now 26-14 on the year and 11-5 in league play, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in its initial at bat of the first game on run-scoring singles from Kacie Edwards and Raines.
The Aggies tied it with two runs in the bottom of the first and it stayed a 2-2 deadlock until the fifth when Brittany Geter had a two-out double to left field and scored the go-ahead run on Raines' single.
The Bronchos upped their lead to 5-2 in the top of the seventh with a pair of unearned runs and CU got a run back in its final at bat on a solo home run before Rachael Steverson got the final two outs to finish off a complete-game pitching performance.
Steverson scattered six hits and walked four while giving up one earned run and striking out six in improving to 11-5 on the year. Raines' 3-for-3 performance led the offense, while Geter and Molly Shivers had two hits apiece.
UCO's bats went silent in the second game, with the Bronchos managed just three hits in getting blanked for just the fourth time this season. Cameron scored all its runs on homers, getting a solo blast in the first inning and a three-run shot in the third.
