EDMOND (April 19) –
A frustrating season continued for Central Oklahoma here Monday afternoon as the Bronchos dropped a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to West Texas A&M in the final home games of the season.

UCO nearly overcame an early 5-0 deficit before dropping an 8-7 decision in the opener, with the Buffaloes using a four-run eighth inning to break open a close game and take an 8-3 win in the nightcap.

The Bronchos fell to 12-27 on the year and 9-23 in league play heading into this weekend's season-ending four-game series at Northeastern State.

“We had our chances in both games and just didn't get it done,” said 19-year head coach Wendell Simmons, who is retiring at the end of the season.  “It's a disappointing way to end our home season, but hopefully we can come back this weekend and finish strong.”

WTAMU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the opener and led 6-2 after three innings, with the Bronchos getting back in it on run-scoring singles by Taylor Brown and Kade Kauk in the fourth and fifth innings to pull within 6-4.

The Buffs scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it 8-4, but UCO got both those runs back in its half of that inning on RBI hits by Brown and Luke Yost.

The Bronchos made it 8-7 in their final at bat in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI groundout by Tucker Brown and had a runner thrown out at the plate that would have tied the game and forced extra innings.

Taylor Brown led UCO with a 4-for-4 performance at the plate, while John Bryant added two hits.

Jason Monko had an RBI fielder's choice in the second inning of the second game to lift the Bronchos to an early 1-1 tie, with WTAMU getting three runs in the fifth to go on top 4-1.

UCO clawed back with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make it 4-3, but the Buffs responded with four runs in the eighth to take control en route to completing the sweep.

Tucker Brown, Brady White and Arrow Cunningham had two hits apiece to pace the Bronchos.
